At Velazquez Landscape, our family-owned team has spent nearly two decades helping local homeowners and commercial property owners prepare their yards for the season ahead. A well-prepared yard not only looks great but also sets the foundation for healthy, thriving plants all year long. Here’s our essential spring cleaning checklist for Fort Worth landscapes: 1. Clear Debris and Leaves Start by removing fallen branches, leaves, and any leftover debris from winter storms. This simple step prevents mold, pests, and diseases from taking hold, and gives your lawn and garden beds room to breathe. #### 2. Prune Trees and Shrubs Pruning is vital for plant health and curb appeal. Trim away dead or overgrown branches to encourage fresh growth and shape your trees and shrubs. Proper pruning also helps prevent storm damage later in the year. #### 3. Check Irrigation Systems A functioning irrigation system is crucial in North Texas. Test your sprinkler and drip systems for leaks or blockages. As licensed irrigators, we recommend a thorough inspection to save water, protect your investment, and keep your landscape lush. #### 4. Refresh Mulch Beds Add a fresh layer of mulch to flower beds and around trees. Mulch conserves moisture, suppresses weeds, and helps regulate soil temperature as the Texas heat returns. #### 5. Fertilize Lawn and Plants Apply a slow-release fertilizer suited for North Texas soil. Fertilizing now gives your grass and plants the nutrients they need for robust spring growth and deep root development. #### 6. Inspect for Drainage Issues Look for soggy spots or standing water after rain. Addressing drainage early can prevent root rot, erosion, and costly repairs down the line. #### 7. Plant Seasonal Flowers and Shrubs Spring is the perfect time to add color and interest with hardy, climate-appropriate plants. Native species like Texas sage or lantana thrive in our region and require less maintenance. #### 8. Clean Hardscapes and Patios Pressure wash walkways, patios, and driveways to remove dirt, mildew, and stains. Clean hardscapes instantly boost curb appeal and make outdoor spaces more inviting. ##### **Need help with your spring cleanup?** Contact Velazquez Landscape for a free consultation.
